On the back of his excellent displays for Crystal Palace last season, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been named in England’s 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup.
The midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park from Chelsea, will head to Russia after former Eagles captain Gareth Southgate selected him in his travelling party, having made 25 appearances for Palace last season, scoring twice.
Loftus-Cheek, 22, won his first Three Lions caps last November after a strong start to his time in red and blue, and was named man of the match as England drew 0-0 with Germany before starting their following game against Brazil.
Warming up for the tournament, Southgate’s team will play Nigeria on 2nd June at Wembley before taking on Costa Rica five days later at Elland Road ahead of leaving for Russia.
They kick-off against Tunisia on 18th June, before taking on Panama on 24th June and rounding off the group stage against Belgium four days after that, when Loftus-Cheek could come up against former Palace teammate Christian Benteke should the striker be included in Roberto Martinez’s final squad.
