Nya Kirby was a second half substitute on Thursday afternoon in Portugal as the England under-19 side beat the hosts 4-1.
Keith Downing’s side are preparing for the U19 Euro qualifiers in Turkey during November and went into this game on the back of victories over the Netherlands and Belgium over the last international break.
Portugal thought they had got the breakthrough early in the game but as the ball crossed the line, the referee’s whistle signalled the goal being disallowed, due to offside.
The half time break arrived without the deadlock being broken but the story was to change in the second half as England’s youngsters turned their dominance into goals.
Emile Smith-Rowe put the Young Lions ahead before substitute Felix Nmecha increased the visitors lead on his debut.
Skipper Marc Guehi netted the third goal as he got on the end of a pass from Danny Loader. A fine individual effort from another substitute, Ian Poveda-Ocampo, completed the scoring for Downing’s youngsters.
Kirby returns with the squad now to St. George’s Park, the venue for Tuesday evening’s game for the Under 19s against Macedonia.
