Wayne Hennessey made a couple of crucial saves to keep his side on level terms during the second half but couldn’t prevent a late penalty deciding the outcome as Bournemouth continued their impressive home form.
Eddie Howe’s side are now unbeaten in five Premier League home games, winning four of those and soon got the advantage in this one as after just five minutes David Brooks put Palace on the back foot. .
“We started the game slowly and obviously the early goal killed us but as the game went on we improved and Patrick had a fantastic strike with the goal. We are devastated not to come away with a point, I haven’t seen the penalty decision again so I will have a look at the incident and see if it was actually a penalty or not but we do need to learn from these mistakes,” commented Hennessey after the match but recognised it was fine margins which meant that it was not to be a better night on the road for Palace.
“We were creating chances but it was that final ball, cross or shot at a time when we were looking good and if you had put money on it you would have definitely said we were going to score but that decision kind of killed us and as I say we need to learn from that,” reflected a disappointed Hennessey.
The Wales international denied Callum Wilson and Dan Gosling with fine saves as the 31 year-old started to believe he would be travelling back with the points.
“I didn’t really have much to do in the earlier part of the game and sometimes when you make saves like that you think it is going to be your night but unfortunately it wasn’t."
Hennessey made over 150 appearances at Wolves and on Saturday comes up against his former club as the midlands side are now on an unbeaten top-flight run of five games for the first time since 1981.
“It will be a difficult game as they’ve started well as with coming into the Premier League they have got that hype and we know they will be a difficult team but we fancy our chances at Selhurst so now we have a good few days training and do our homework on Wolves.”
