Wales picked up their first competitive victory against the Republic of Ireland as Ryan Giggs’ took charge of his opening home match in charge as they beat Republic Of Ireland 4-1 in the UEFA Nations League match on Thursday evening.
Wayne Hennessey played the full ninety minutes but it was a quite night for the Eagles goalkeeper as Wales dominated the game to inflict The Republic of Ireland’s heaviest away defeat since October 2013.
The home side went into a three goal half time lead after strikes from Tom Lawrence, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey
The advantage was added to ten minutes into the second period when Conor Roberts’s half volley completed a miserable night for O’Neill’s side.
Hennessey was beaten on 66 minutes after an error by Ramsey let in Shaun Williams, who made no mistake with his effort but it was to be only a consolation for the visitors on a night which produced an excellent start to Wales Nation League campaign.
Wales now travel to Denmark for their next match on Tuesday evening.
