Brandon Pierrick Reacts to U23s Seven Goal Thriller

4 February 2019

Crystal Palace Under-23s ended up the right side of a 4-3 thriller at Copers Cope today as they triumphed over league leaders Ipswich Town to lay their hands on a crucial three points.

Having played a strong game amongst a solid team performance, Brandon Pierrick reflected on the victory saying, "I thought we did well, we stuck in there even though we were losing at one point. We showed resilience to get the win and I'm happy with my performance.

"I thought in the second half I got more into the game. In the first half, I was getting more used to being a striker because they had a big centreback. But I did better in the second half."

The win helped Palace to narrow the gap on first-placed Ipswich from their perch in second place, though Pierrick wasn't fully aware just how important the game ultimately was. "If I'm honest," he said, "I didn't even know [Ipswich are first in the league] until after the game! The coaches came and said they were top of the league. But I was just focussed on getting the three points."

And while today Pierrick featured up front for the Eagles, he has been known to play across the pitch from defence right the way up to the opposition's penalty box.

He tried to explain his position for those who don't yet know him, saying, "I'd like to say I'm quite versatile. I'm a winger but I can do a job as a striker. Sometimes they need me to fill in at right-back so I'm just doing jobs for the team, but I'm a natural winger."

But, wherever he plays, Pierrick is at a level above his peers as he should be playing with the Under-18s. Having begun to step up properly to the tougher age group, he explained how it feels, saying, "I enjoy playing with the others because it's different to my age group - things are much quicker. They're more onto you if you make a mistake and it improves you as a player."
