Sakho Hurting After Liverpool Defeat

19 January 2019

Mamadou Sakho spoke of his bitter disappointment after his side’s narrow defeat at the hands of his former club Liverpool.

He said: “Of course we are disappointed. When you give everything like we did for 95 minutes and you get back home with no points, I am really disappointed. It’s sad, it’s a shame.”

Hodgson described his centre back pairing of Sakho and James Tomkins as “outstanding” despite the side conceding four goals, and Sakho spoke of his side’s team mentality. He said: “It’s football. We have to think like a squad - when we score a goal, the first ball comes from our ‘keeper. When you concede, the first defender is our striker. We just have to think like a squad, and a team.”

He added: “For Liverpool it was one of the most difficult games they’ve had an Anfield this season. We showed we have a strong team, and a really strong squad.”
