Christian Benteke was one of five different goalscorers for the Eagles in this afternoon's convincing and highly enjoyable 5-0 pre-season win over Bristol City.
Speaking post-match, the Belgium striker said:
“It was important for us to have a result this afternoon, and overall we seemed sharper and stronger.
“The manager wanted us to be more available to the midfielders – especially when we play with two strikers – and I think that’s what we did.
Benteke was full of praise for his two different strike partners this afternoon, with Jeffrey Schlupp leading the line with him for the first half, before being replaced by Jordan Ayew at half time:
“It’s nice to have him [Schlupp] up there because we are two different types of player; I like to come in field and he likes to run in behind.
“Jordan has been really professional during his time here, and I think that’s why the club decided to sign him. I think he’s a good player and he will do well because he’s a different type of striker and that’s what we need.”
Commenting on his goal, a type of goal that all Palace fans have come to associate with the striker, Benteke said:
“It’s me. It’s one of my qualities. But the main thing is I feel strong, I feel sharp, I feel fitter.”
