“Of course this is a happy story,” Vieira said of Eriksen, who suffered an on-field cardiac arrest during last summer’s European Championship, but could make his return to senior football on Saturday.
Vieira praises Eriksen return and shares Ferguson update
Patrick Vieira says the whole of football can enjoy the ‘happy story’ of Christian Eriksen’s return to senior football before Palace take on Brentford, as he shared an update on the fitness of Nathan Ferguson.
“To see him back on the field training and playing games is something that we can all enjoy, because he loves the game. For him to be back on the field and doing something that he loves is something we can all be happy about.
“Around Christian there is a lot of positivity to take into the game. The support and the first aid he had on the field is something that is really important.
“To see him back in football at the highest level is something really positive. To show that with the support [we can] see him back playing football at this level is really good news for him, and really good news for football as well.”
Vieira also shared an update on the fitness of Nathan Ferguson.
“Nathan had the hamstring setback, so he will be out for five to six weeks,” the manager explained. “It is a shame, because he worked quite hard to get back on the field with the team, but we will give him the support that he needs for him to come back and enjoy himself on the field.
“It’s a difficult period, but we will give him the love and attention that he needs to get back on the field as quickly as possible.”
