Paddy McCarthy’s side went a goal down after the visiting team set off to a strong, threatening start. A free-kick from the left side of Rohan Luthra’s penalty box resulted in Palace’s defence netting into their own goal following a testing cross.
The Eagles, however, worked hard in an effort to bring themselves level in the game as Robertson tested the Lions down his right flank, his efforts resulting in a shot safely saved by the travelling keeper.
By the half-hour mark, the game had settled down with Palace defending in numbers to swiftly nullify Millwall’s attacking chances whilst creating opportunities themselves.
However, moments before half-time, Palace’s opposition broke through into the home side’s box for a strong, firm shot to find its way into the left side of Luthra’s net.
Starting the second half well, the Eagles were still very much in the game and resumed play both quickly and positively. A smart link-up between Bivesh Gurung and Brandon Aveiro resulted in the latter’s shot being frustratingly blocked by a resolute defence.
As the morning’s relentless rain drove harder, so too did a determined Palace side and Joshua Malcolm did well to send a pacy shot into Millwall’s net to give the Eagles a glimpse of levelling.
His goal was not enough to inspire a comeback, however, and the Lions took their third of the morning as Luthra tipped a ball onto the bar, only to see the rebounded effort knocked in.
Shortly after, a similarly cruel goal arose following both an impressive, last-ditch sliding challenge and another smart save from Luthra. However, with both their keeper and defence resultantly out-of-position, Palace could only watch on as Millwall prodded their fourth goal into an effectively unguarded net to finish off the scoring.
