James Milner scored his 13th Premier League penalty when he gave the visitors the lead after a tackle on Mohamed Salah was given by referee, Michael Oliver, as a spot kick and Palace went in to the break unlucky to be behind in the match.
Palace’s Norwegian striker, Sørloth, was asked that on chances created the game was closer than the score line suggests.
“I think so, the red card didn’t help but we were in the game and creating chances but just couldn’t put the ball in the net,” said Sørloth, who also felt that Mamadou Sakho was unfortunate to see the penalty decision go against him.
“I couldn’t see that well from the side-lines but I think it is marginal. I don’t know if he touches him or not, I will have to see it again but from the touchline it didn’t seem a penalty.”
Aaron Wan-Bissaka became the youngest Palace player to be shown a red card in the Premier League when he challenged Salah as the striker broke clear after the Eagles were pushing for a equaliser but Sørloth realised the defender had to take one for the team.
“I think he has to as Salah was one on one against the goalkeeper, we tried to score on the set piece but they have two really fast guys up top so that happens. We would rather as a team go for 1-1 than stay back and try not to concede for 2-0 which is good but it was not to be.”
The 22 year-old striker was pleased to get involved in the action with twenty minutes remaining and hopes that it is not too long before he opens his account for the season.
“I felt my touch was alright and had some good moments which could have seen me score but hopefully that will happen soon.”
