The 27 year old reflected on the performance of the side and was left feeling that the home side should have made more of their chances as they finished the game stronger of the two teams.
“I am a bit disappointed but at least we got a point, I think we played very well today especially in the second half and unlucky we conceded a goal from a corner kick but we moved on and dominated the game.
“We got a penalty and created a lot of chances but we couldn’t hit the back of the net with one of them and had to take a point but I think we deserved three.”
The left back received 49% of the fans vote as 3,391 made their choice at the final whistle and Van Aanholt was pleased that his efforts were recognised.
“I am trying to do my best every game for the team to help as much as I can with my ability, I am lucky I got man of the match and I’m happy.”
Down the left hand side he has been receiving many plaudits for his link up play with Wilfried Zaha when he has the chance to go forward and it’s a combination which he sees as an important one for the side.
“Me and Wilf always have a good understanding, sometimes he gets a bit frustrated when I don’t give him the ball but I always tell him to relax and he will get his chances. I try to give him as much of the ball as he is very important for us as he is a very good player."
Van Aanholt has played under Sam Allardyce at Sunderland and last season at Palace and next up is a trip to Goodison Park for The Eagles to meet his Everton side and the Netherlands born defender is expecting a reaction following their 5-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.
“After their defeat we must expect them to come back stronger than they were in the game at the weekend and we obviously know the gaffer well, Big Sam, and even though he knows what he needs to do against us we know what we need to do against him."
