The defender couldn't hide his frustration when he was asked about the 86th minute close range header that sealed the points to move the Magpies into sixth place.
"There are certainly positives to take from the match, the team were solid and we limited the number of chances that they had in the game but it was a bitter pill to swallow at the way their goal was scored."
Roy Hodgson named an unchanged starting line-up for this fifth Premier League game as Eagles manager and Ward belives that can be good for the sides fortunes going forward.
"The longer you play together the more you get to know the way each other plays and I think that has shown with how well we have played in the last couple of games. We have been unfortunate in this game today but we came into the match on the back of last weeks victory against Chelsea and held a side today who have a good home record," the right back told cpfc.co.uk as he commented on a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.
It was a contest where chances were few and far between but he did feel that the side held the upper hand in a closely fought contest.
After the midweek cup match at Bristol City attention will turn to next Saturday's home game against West Ham United and Ward hopes that work put in on the training pitch will soon start carrying over into their top flight performances.
"There wasn’t much in the game between the two sides, neither created a great deal of opportunities but for large periods of the match we were the better team. It was unfortunate the way we conceded the goal and bearing in mind how it went in via a deflection I am sure you will not see too many scored like that.
"We need to take one game at a time and get our heads down and work hard whilst keeping ourselves focussed on the job in hand. We do our work on the training pitch through the week which needs to be reflected in match situations to help us get the results we need in games."
