The 'keeper developed at Aston Villa before making a switch to Bristol City in 2007, where he stayed for four seasons and enjoyed several loan spells to clubs such as Aldershot and Yeovil Town.

Permanent moves to Portsmouth and West Ham United followed before further loans to Ipswich Town and AFC Bournemouth.

Henderson established himself most prominently at fellow south London club Charlton Athletic, for whom he featured in 54 games. From the Addicks, the Irishman joined Nottingham Forest and then a brief return to Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers followed as loans before he signed for the Eagles.
