Affectionately known as Joniesta, Williams has come through the Eagles' youth ranks to reach the first-team and enjoy success at club and international levels.
The Welshman joined the club's academy aged eight and made his full debut back in August 2011 in a Championship clash with Coventry City. After a successful first few months in the first-team, an broken leg sustained playing for Wales' under-21s saw him ruled out for the majority of that season.
However, he would return to feature regularly for the Eagles as they clinched promotion to the Premier League in 2012/13, with Williams starting the Championship play-off final against Watford. He was also named the club's Young Player of the Year that campaign and won his first full international cap for Wales against Scotland in March 2013.
Injuries though would blight the next few seasons of his career, and seeking full fitness he would go on loan to Ipswich Town three times during the 2013/14 campaign, and would also spend time at Nottingham Forest and MK Dons the following season. The gametime there saw him selected for Wales' Euro 2016 squad, where he featured four times in their run to the semi-finals.
A fourth stint at Ipswich Town followed in 2016/17 where he featured eight times before a shoulder injury ended his campaign, however he signed a new Palace deal in the summer of 2017 to continue his lengthy association with the Eagles, and has joined Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season.
