Despite an injury-hit 2017/18 campaign, Tavares' resilience and displays in red and blue saw him handed a contract extension during the summer of 2018 and then again in 2019.
A Croatian Under-20 international, the centre-back was handed a first professional contract with the Eagles after impressing for the Under-18s and later the Development team on trial in 2016.
He was previously on the books of Hellenic FC in his native South Africa before moving to England with Brentford, but was forced to search for a new club once their academy closed in the summer of 2016.
Tavares ended the 2018/19 season on the bench in Palace's 5-3 Premier League win against AFC Bournemouth.
