Tonight sees Palace travel nearly 200 miles to St James’ Park on the South coast to kick off their Capital One Cup campaign against Exeter City.
The match will also be the first of the season for The Grecians before their League Two opener against Morcambe, and manager Paul Tisdale could hand debuts to former Wales international Aaron Davies, Tommy Doherty, Craig Woodman, Jamie Cureton and Matt Oakley.
A certain former England goalkeeper David James spent some time on trial at St James’ Park over the summer, but no agreement has been made between the clubs.
Exeter finished second from bottom in League One, seeing them relegated after just two seasons in the third flight of English football.
Exeter drew 2-2 in their final pre-season game away at Yeovil Town, with Scott Bennett and John O’Flynn scoring for the visitors.
Nothing could come between Palace and Exeter last time around, all the way back in 1960. 0-0 was the score shortly after Christmas just 24 hours earlier it was 3-2 to Palace.
The game at St James’ Park kicks off at 7:45pm with commentary on Palace Player. The game will go to extra time and penalties should the scores be level at full time.
