Not our night, but a much-improved second-half display. Unlucky, lads!

... No less than the Young Eagles deserve! Palace have been dominant since the break and finally have their reward, King reacting quickest to an inswinging corner to fire home and give the Eagles a lifeline!

... The winger turns his marker brilliantly before unleashing a powerful strike that the 'keeper can only parry over! Moments later, Sealey whips in another dangerous delivery and Angibeaud looks to turn it home on the volley, but Timmermans dives to tip it behind. Palace aren't giving up!

... Williams tests Timmermans from range, but the 'keeper holds firm. Moments later, Angibeaud gets in on the act with a close-range volley, only for Timmermans to deny him too!

... Lee produces a strong save at the other end before the Young Eagles break at pace from the resulting corner, with Nascimento racing clear on goal, only to see his eventual effort hit straight at Timmermans.

A neat one-two between Danaher and Williams then opens up another chance, but Williams blazes over from close range. Palace are knocking on the door!

... Nascimento does brilliantly to bring down King's lofted pass before a clever backheel finds Gibbard, who tees up Kalembo at the back post. The defender connects with a close-range volley, but the 'keeper is equal to it!

... Palace make two changes for the second half, with Majni and Somade making way for Whyte and King as the Young Eagles look for a response.

... Sternal strikes again on the stroke of half-time to make it three for Anderlecht. A mountain to climb for the Young Eagles in the second half.

... Slipped in behind the Anderlecht defence, Nascimento lets fly with a low drive that forces Timmermans to get down and divert it around the near post!

... Okoli hangs a lovely free-kick into the danger area, and Kporha latches onto it before unleashing a strike that stings the palms of Timmermans!

... Palace fail to clear their lines on several occasions, and Sternal capitalises to drive into the box before finding Van De Ven at the back post, who makes no mistake from close range to steer it past Lee.

... Kalembo releases Sealey down the right, and the winger whips in a pinpoint cross that’s just too high for the rising Nascimento to steer on target!

... The Young Eagles are building in confidence, dominating possession and territory, and beginning to ask some serious questions in the final third with a few dangerous deliveries into the box.

... Danaher floats a lovely ball towards the back post, where Majni heads it into Williams’ path, but the midfielder fires narrowly over!

... Not the start Palace would have been hoping for! Pape Aliya Ndao pulls it back for Enzo Sternal, who steers it past Harry Lee first time inside the opening minute.

That’s the warm-up wrapped up! The Young Eagles are heading back inside for their final preparations. Kick-off is just around the corner…

Darren Powell makes three changes from the EFL Trophy defeat to Plymouth Argyle, with Taha Majni, Nat Kalembo and first-team forward Zavier Gozo coming in for Tyler Whyte, Joe Gibbard and the injured Benji Casey. David Angibeaud also returns to the bench after missing the start of the season through injury.

Launched in 2014/15, the competition pits Premier League academies against some of Europe’s leading young sides. This season’s 32 teams comprise 16 Premier League 2 clubs and 16 invited European sides, split into four groups of eight. Each team plays four group-stage matches, with the top two in each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

The Young Eagles have enjoyed memorable nights in the International Cup, reaching the final in 2022/23 before losing 3-1 to Jong PSV. They went one better the following season, however, as Franco Umeh’s deflected second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over the Dutch side and Palace’s first title in the competition.
