Speroni Breaks League Record

25 February 2015

Last weekend's game against Arsenal was yet another landmark occasion for Eagles shot-stopper Julian Speroni.

The Argentinian shot-stopper made his 347th league appearance between the posts for Palace, surpassing John Jackson's record in the process as he continues to break and close in on records after a decade of service at the club.

Most league appearances for Crystal Palace as a goalkeeper:
1Julian Speroni2004-present347*
2John Jackson1964-1973346
3Josh Johnson1907-1915295
4Nigel Martyn1989-1996272
5Vic Rouse1956-1963257

Another record now in Speroni's sights is the all-time appearance record in all competitions for a goalkeeper. Should he play all of the Eagles' remaining games for the rest of the campaign then he could draw level with Jackson, but would have to wait until next season to break the record.

Most appearances for Crystal Palace as a goalkeeper (all competitions):
1John Jackson1964-1973388
2Julian Speroni2004-present376*
3Nigel Martyn1989-1996349
4Josh Johnson1907-1915295
5Vic Rouse1956-1963257

However he is still some way off breaking Jim Cannon's record as the club's all-time appearance maker.

Crystal Palace record appearances (all competitions)
1Jim Cannon1973-1988660
2Terry Long1955-1968480
3Albert Harry1922-1934440
4John Jackson1964-1973388
5Julian Speroni2004-present376*

But one record that is well within his grasp is the club's all-time clean sheet record. The 35-year-old is just four shy of Nigel Martyn's record, having kept six this season which sees him hold a record 98 in league games, to go alongside a further nine in cup competitions:

Most clean sheets for Crystal Palace (all competitions):
