Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has left Crystal Palace to join Southampton for an undisclosed fee.
The shot-stopper made seven Premier League appearances last season after signing from Queens Park Rangers back in July 2015 and made his Eagles debut in the opening day win against Norwich City a month later.
However he couldn’t force his way back into first-team contention after Welsh international Wayne Hennessey was handed an opportunity to stake his claim for a starting spot, and now the competition for the number one jersey has only increased following the signing of French international Steve Mandanda.
McCarthy becomes the third player to sign for Saints this summer, following Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Nathan Redmond, as new manager Claude Puel looks to shake up his squad ahead of a Europa League campaign as well as the rigours of the top-flight.
The club would like to thank Alex for his efforts at Crystal Palace over the past year and wish him well for the future.
