Transfer Window Round-Up

1 September 2016

It’s been a busy summer for the Eagles with Alan Pardew revamping his first-team by bringing in five new faces, who bring a wealth of Premier League and international experience to Selhurst Park.

Palace were busy in the early weeks of the window, and on the first day of July they secured the services of two new players. Winger Andros Townsend made a £13 million move from Newcastle United, and soon after he was joined at the club by French international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda on an undisclosed fee from Marseille.

Five days later, a third arrival was confirmed with centre-back James Tomkins crossing the capital to sign for £10 million from West Ham United, before jetting off with the squad on their pre-season.

Aiming to get a significant deal secured, it would be until after the Premier League campaign had kicked off until a fourth man put pen to paper, but when he did it proved to be on the biggest deals of the summer, as Palace shattered their club record to sign Christian Benteke from Liverpool.

A few days before the window slammed shut, there was time to add another attacker to the ranks with Chelsea striker Loic Remy also inking a season long loan deal at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, a number of players left the club permanently. Dwight Gayle joined Newcastle United for £10 million back in July, whilst the following month Yannick Bolasie and Mile Jedinak departed for Everton and Aston Villa respectively.

Alex McCarthy also left to join Southampton, while youngsters Jake Gray and Jerome Binnom-Williams transferred to Luton Town and Peterborough United. Emmanuel Adebayor, Marouane Chamakh, Paddy McCarthy and Adrian Mariappa were all released at the end of their contracts, with the Jamaican defender rejoining Watford earlier this week, and Brede Hangeland retired. In the final few days of the window, no fewer than seven players headed into the Football League on loan deals.

There has also been plenty of comings and goings surrounding the development squad, with Giovanni McGregor, Noor Husin and Jonathan Benteke all signing last week. Brother of Christian, Jonathan is a 21-year-old striker who was previously at Zulte Waregem and signed a one-year deal. Academy products Kian Flanagan and Jason Akiotu also signed professional deals.
