Frank de Boer has been encouraged this week by some of his pre-season injuries returning to training as two midfielders have been back in action but he also revealed that Pape Souare is not that far from returning in red and blue.
"He will be looking to play in under 23 action in a couple of weeks time and I have given my appreciation and well done to the medical staff and performance coaches because when he had the car accident it was being doubted whether he would play again.
"Having seen him in action on Wednesday I must say it looks very promising for him and he will continue to work at getting back to the same level that he was at."
"James McArthur and Yohan Cabaye are both fit and training but not ready to be in contention for the starting eleven but are both looking and good and will continue to work on their fitness by getting game time in under 23 games."
Both Bakary Sako and Connor Wickham are both still out and miss the start of the season.
Youngsters Will Be Given Their Chance.
The manager also said he has been encouraged by some younger members of the squad who have caught his eye during pre-season.
"The fans want to see young promising players get chances. That’s hard in the Premier League, but if you have quality you can be ready.
"We have some good, talented young players here and I think we are trying to do that. The first thing is for players to be fit and it helps the team to try and get points.
"You have to give young players the chance and as a manager, I have done that. When I think they can make a difference, I will play them."
