The club has recently received the sad news that our former player Mike Deakin has passed away, aged 83.
Mike joined the club in November 1954 from Bromsgrove Rovers as part of a policy by new manager Cyril Spiers to introduce younger players and made his debut in the same month.
Over the next five years the centre-forward made just over 150 appearances and scored 62 goals during what was a difficult time for the club as it became a founder member of the new Division Four. 27 of these goals came in the 1958-59 season and by then Mike found himself playing alongside Johnny Byrne.
Mike’s final game with the club was in August 1959 and he then signed for Northampton Town and later Aldershot.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Mike’s family and friends at this difficult time.
