Congratulations to Kevin Gonzalez, who is the winner of April’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month.
This award goes to a member of the club's academy on a monthly basis and this latest one goes to Kevin, an under 14 midfielder but he has also had the opportunity to play for older age groups.
Kevin feels that chance to test his ability against older age groups has certainly helped him progress and get this recongition within the club's academy.
“It’s been a good month for me and it has been a big help having had the opportunity to train with an older age group when I have had some time with the under 16s group. I had a chance to play three matches with them and a couple for the under 14s & 15s so that certainly helped my progression and it is great to have been recognised by the coaches with this award.”
Under 14’s coach Robert Quinn said “Kevin is a wonderful technician and can do things with a ball that astound us all in the academy. He has been here for a number of years since he was eight years old and is a pleasure to coach and to work with. The opportunity he has had to play with the older age groups has helped make him become stronger in terms of physically and also with his mentality and we look forward to seeing his progression in the number 10 shirt in the years to come."
In terms of picking the winner, the academy management ask each age group manager to submit a POTM from their group. The management then sit down and decide on the overall winner to receive the award.
