Speroni: An Amazing Day

14 October 2017

Julian Speroni's return to Premier League action was one that he described as amazing as he once again took part in a home victory against Chelsea.

In 2013/14 season he starred in the 1-0 victory against our west London neighbours and today was handed the chance by Roy Hodgson to be involved once again.

A calf injury sustained by Wayne Hennessey on international duty gave Speroni an opportunity to pull on the Eagles number one jersey.

"It was just an amazing day and what a performance from everyone,  it was a great team performance and all did our jobs so well to get such a good result in the end.

"It is so important that you play as team and pull together to get the result, it is about hard work.

"I have been missing playing and especially taking part in games here at Selhurst with such a great atmosphere. I prepare every day in training to be ready to play and be available for the next game and hopefully I will get the chance to play the next game but I will wait and see."

Wilfried Zaha's winning goal was the perfect way for the winger to make his return to the red and blue of the Eagles but his performance was no surprise to Speroni, who has seen his progress during the 'keeper's ten years at Selhurst Park.

"I have seen him play and progress since he was in the academy to what he is today and now is world class. He would make the difference to any team and having seen him grow into the player he is today is tremendous."

The home support raised the roof in the stadium as the noise levels went to an incredible volume and the man in green believes the fans got the side over the line in the latter stages of the game.

"The fans were incredible throughout and especially in the last five minutes when we really needed them and were key to us getting the three points. They were amazing today and we need them to be at that level watching us battling for points in the Premier League for the rest of the season."
