Report: Kingstonian 0-0 Crystal Palace XI

7 August 2018

Palace fought hard against an experienced Kingstonian side in the bucketing rain on Tuesday night, and could have felt a little hard done by not to have snatched the win.

An excellent stop from Dion-Curtis Henry denied Kingstonian’s Elliott Buchanan on nine minutes, as he blocked the striker’s powerful drive with his chest from close range.

Minutes later and Palace has a golden opportunity to take the lead when Nya Kirby fizzed a low cross into the home side’s six yard box, but the onrushing Kian Flanagan couldn’t get enough of his foot around it and it flew narrowly wide.

Ryan Inniss went closer still on 23 minutes when he glanced a deflected header off the crossbar from the second of three successive corners for the Eagles.

Buchanan tested Henry again on the half hour mark, thumping a speculative effort from 30 yards after a bounce sat up kindly for him, but the Palace stopper was equal to it and launched across goal to claw it behind for a Kingstonian corner.

Inniss, Jason Lokilo and James Daly all went close in the closing minutes of the first period, but it remained all square when the referee blew.

In torrential rain Palace continued to threaten after the restart and substitute Francis Baptiste had a few half-chances as a result of his pace against the home side’s defence. Unfortunately the attacker saw his efforts blocked, crowded out or intercepted, but he kept up the torment.

Neither side had a real clearcut chance until the 89th minute but Palace’s Joe Tupper reacted well to tip a goalbound header over from a Kingstonian corner.

It ended goalless.
