James McArthur has enjoyed a good spell of his career at Crystal Palace, and has had to be versatile in midfield over the years playing under several manage
McArthur is finding himself playing in a wider position than he may have been used to previously. Speaking with Premier League Productions ahead of his side's trip to West Ham United, the Scotsman discussed the switch in his role and about how he is trying to perform this season.
"It's a different position," he said. "You need to learn with each game as you go. With playing in a new position, you make mistakes, but I feel that with the position now I know it much more than I did last year.
"It’s a position I've never really been asked to play in but the manager sees me there and I actually enjoy it. [I’ve been] getting into some good positions and I enjoy trying to get forward as well. But it’s a competitive squad, and I just want to stay in the starting 11."
And getting forward has paid dividends recently, as McArthur scored his first of the season against Burnley last Saturday. However, he says, he wants to do more going forward.
"This season I’ve not been where I wanted to be. Last year, I scored a good number of goals for the team. But this year, I’ve not scored as many as I’d have liked to."
McArthur will be looking to add to his goal tally on Saturday, when Palace face West Ham United. He said, "They’re a good side but there's good sides throughout the league. We’ve had a lot of good performances, especially of late. We’ll look to get back to that and try and get the three points. We know we’ll need to be on it to win the match."
Palace travel to east London for a 15.00 kick-off, having lost just once in 15 years on the road against the Hammers.
