In the first weekend of the New Year the attention of the football world will now turn to the 3rd round of the FA Cup with Roy Hodgson preparing for his sides visit to The Amex to meet Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday evening.
The two sides shared the points in the recent league meeting at Brighton in November but it is likely that the line up of the visitors will have a different look about it than that night as the manager takes the opportunity to look at some who haven’t been involved in the recent run of eleven matches that has seen the Eagles suffer just one defeat in that time.
“We will now spend some time looking at some of the players and check that for certain they will be ready for the Burnley game and at the moment, even though the fans may not like to hear it, I know I am going to give some players who haven't been involved a chance to show what they can do and that will mean that one or two players who have been playing non-stop for the last eleven games may be left out.
“People like Bakary Sako, Jairo Riedewald, Patrick Van Aanholt and others who came in and did well against Manchester City might need another go at it so I am hoping to make some changes and freshen up the team a little bit and make certain that one or two players who need to breathe a little bit after this recent run of games can take time to enjoy what they have achieved and make certain they get their head right for the last sixteen games where we are going to need an awful lot more points."
Roy Hodgson will be previewing the Brighton game in more detail at his pre-match press conference at 1.30pm on Friday. Live coverage of this will be broadcast on the club App.
