Richard Shaw’s side were given a tough test against older opposition in the Bromley sunshine on Tuesday evening, as they stepped up their pre-season preparation.
The young Eagles battled well and held their own for large parts of the game, but a late header from ex-Eagle Kyle De Silva late in the second period.
Bromley started well and a half chance fell the way George Porter, but he couldn’t connect properly with a low cross into the Palace box and it skewed off his boot and went wide.
On 18 minutes space opened up for Frankie Raymond at the edge of the Eagles’ area, but his tame effort was easily smothered by Dion-Curtis Henry.
The first half came to an end with neither side really having dominated the other, in what was a physically and hard-fought, but even affair. The Eagles coped well with the seniority in the Bromley side, taking the game to them and playing assertively.
Seconds after the restart Bobby-Joe Taylor thumped an effort narrowly over the Palace crossbar, as Bromley began with renewed intensity. A header over the top from a Raymond free kick followed shortly after.
Jordan Higgs then had a similar effort from the edge of the area fizz over substitute Joe Tupper’s crossbar. A run by Taylor was half-stopped by the Eagles’ defence and the ball sat up nicely for te Bromley number 14 to rasp narrowly off target.
Bromley took the lead through ex-Palace man Kyle De Silva on 71 minutes. He provided the glancing touch to an in-swinging cross which saw it bounce off the far post, hit Tupper and go in. Seconds after the restart Bugiel missed a golden opportunity to double their advantage when he somehow hit the post from a yard out.
