Wilf On Pre-Season Double Delight

28 July 2018

Wilfried Zaha added an assist to his two goals as Palace produced a dominate performance on Saturday afternoon to complete a 4-0 victory at Reading and is pleased with how the preparation for the new season is progressing.

“It was good and we are getting back into shape so hopefully we can start the new season how we ended the last one.”

The winger provided an assist for Alexander Sørloth to fire home the first of the afternoon’s goals and was in no doubt that the striker was going to finish off the move on 33 minutes.

“We haven’t played together that much but we are starting to understand each other more on the pitch now, when I got the ball I wanted to get to the bye-line and cut it back and when I saw it got to him I thought he is going to get this in because he held the defender off and smashed the ball in. He’s strong and I enjoy playing with him.”

Zaha once again combined well with Patrick Van Aanholt for the second goal and wanted to praise the role that James McArthur played in his second goal, a fine strike from the edge of the penalty box.

“Patrick and I clearly have a good understanding, him at left back and me on the wing and as soon as he gets down the line he knows there is a cut back, I am literally always there so I know exactly what he is going to do and it works well.

“We have always known the energy that Maccer gives to the team but now I feel he has added a lot more to his game, the quality and composure can be seen out on the pitch and add the hard work he always gives and you can see what he does for us.”

His goal scoring is something that he is continuing looking to add to his game so Zaha was pleased to have the two goals to his name and believes he is ready for the start of the season in a fortnight’s time or even earlier !.

“This season I am trying to score a lot more goals and I am just happy that all the hard work I am putting in is showing on the pitch.

“I always try and stay ready so if there was a game tomorrow I would make sure I am ready.”
