Sørloth On 'Empty Feeling' After Late Heartbreak

5 March 2018

Alexander Sørloth spoke on behalf of a disappointed dressing room as he reflected on another late home defeat for the Eagles after Manchester United took maximum points as they cancelled out Palace's two goal advantage.

“It’s an empty feeling, we should have had the three points today after leading 2-0 against United then we should have controlled the game more and don’t give them so much space on the ball and then they go and score at the end," said Sørloth as he spoke just minutes after the final whistle.

“A point would have been good for us but in the circumstances from leading 2-0 we should have won but we just have to focus on Saturday now and the big game against Chelsea and hopefully we can get a point or three there.”

The Palace striker believes that the performance is one that the side can take positives from in the knowledge that every point is vital in a congested bottom half of the Premier League table.

“We can take from this that we created a lot of chances against a top team and we could have scored three or four goals which is good and hopefully we will do the same against Chelsea and be better defensively

“You have to win a few games and suddenly you are up five spots up the table so we just have to focus on the next game and try and take some positives from this and keep going.”

A change in formation was one which Sørloth said made his own role enjoyable, even in defeat, and believes that playing up front with Christian Benteke will soon see him open his account for the Eagles.

“It was better today when we played with two up front, we are two big strong guys who can keep the ball and also have some pace so can challenge the central defenders but of course one of us should have scored a goal but I think that will come if we keep playing together.”

Roy Hodgson was full of admiration for his side’s performance and the Norwegian striker said that the manager said his group of players should take a lot from the performance.

“He said it was a good try and it’s not every time that Nemanja Matic scores from 25 yards but he said we should be proud of our efforts and we just have to keep going.”
