Palace’s Nya Kirby scored his second goal in a week for England under-18s as they rounded off their Panda Cup campaign with a win against Hungary.
The development midfielder netted from the penalty spot in the Young Lions’ opening game against Uruguay in a 2-2 draw, but he couldn’t prevent them losing 4-0 to the hosts China in their second game on Friday, who clinched the trophy with a game to spare.
That meant that England were playing for pride in their final group game against Hungary, but Kirby converted a Tariq Lamptey ball after just 11 minutes to score what would be the only goal of the game, ensuring England finished runners-up.
Kirby also ended the competition as joint-top scorer with his two goals, alongside China’s Guo Tianya and Uruguayan Nicolás Schiappacasse.
