Roy Hodgson revealed at today’s press conference that club captain Jason Puncheon will return to training with the first team squad on Friday morning.
He has been ruled out of action since suffering cruciate knee damage at the New Year’s Eve match against Manchester City but has been back working with the strength and fitness team over recent weeks and is now ready to join in the full session at the end of this week.
Connor Wickham missed training on Thursday but the manager reported that he will be ready to return tomorrow so only Scott Dann and Bakary Sako are the players missing with their long-term injuries.
"It's amazing we have so many fit players at this late of stage of the season and Jason Puncheon is also going to train with the team tomorrow which will be the first time since his serious injury. Connor Wickham didn't train today because of a slight calf problem after training on Tuesday but he is ok and that just leaves those that have not been training, Scott Dann and Bakary Sako, so apart from that we have a fully fit squad to pick from," said Hodgson as he updated the media on team news at his weekly conference.
