James McArthur has signed a contract extension that will see the Scotsman remain at Palace until the end of the 2020/21 season.
McArthur has played 136 games for Palace, netting 16 times, since his switch to south London four years ago.
But his impact on Palace’s results goes way beyond his goal and assist tally. During McArthur’s 127 Premier League appearances, Palace average 1.25 points per game, whereas in the 27 games he’s missed over four years, the team average 0.8 points per game. Palace also score more when McArthur plays (1.2 goals per game with vs 0.9 without) and concede less (1.4 goals with per game vs 1.6 without).
Club Chairman Steve Parish said: “James is the epitome of a model professional. He sets a brilliant example to other players, and is a real team man. James has been a huge success at the club and embodies everything we are about at Crystal Palace FC. We are absolutely delighted that he has re-signed with us.”
McArthur said: “I’m very pleased to commit myself to the club for another three years. It’s great, and I’m excited about the challenges that come. The manager has brought the best out of me from last season, and I really enjoy playing under him. We have a very good squad where there is competition for places all over the field, and I think we’ll get stronger and stronger.”
