Find out what updates we've made to Selhurst Park

6 August 2019

The turnstiles may have closed for 83 days since our emphatic win over AFC Bournemouth on the last day of the 18/19 Premier League season, but when the Selhurst Park gates reopened last Saturday for the Hertha Berlin friendly, Eagles supporters will have noticed a whole host of changes to the home of Crystal Palace.

As with every summer, club staff have been working tirelessly to improve and develop the stadium, adding and changing parts of the entire ground to benefit fans and their matchday experience.

Pushing up to second in Visit Football’s Premier League rankings for matchday experience, Palace have improved season on season and the latest changes to Selhurst Park will ensure fans enjoy an even better matchday in SE25.

Here are just some of the improvements that you might notice… but there is plenty more to do ahead of the Everton clash this Saturday!

Pitch surround

A new blue pitch surround has been installed, fit for our seventh successive season in the Premier League!

Fixing the Holmesdale roof

Fans across the Holmesdale Road stand will be better protected against the elements this season and will be relieved to know that extensive work continues to be carried out to repair damage to the roof of the stand, sustained over several years since the stand was installed in 1994. Works are ongoing, so for the time being the stand will have scaffolding in place whilst the works are completed.

Deep clean

The entire stadium has been deep cleaned - every seat, every path, every toilet, every stair. Credit to the cleaners!

Changing room refurbishments

Players from both the home and visiting team will be preparing themselves in new and improved changing rooms, which have been completely refurbished ahead of the upcoming season.

The updated areas now feature new artwork across the walls, comfortable seats and a new air-con unit.

Flying the flag

Selhurst, Norwood and Thornton Heath resident fans may have noticed a change to the streets of SE25, with Crystal Palace now proudly flying the flag from lampposts across the high streets near the ground. We’ve hoisted up the team to proudly line the roads with the famous red and blue and decorate the area with the crest of its local club.

A fresh new look

New artwork has been installed across the stadium, with Palace’s 2019/20 kits being proudly displayed on walls and boards from the Fanzone to the club shop. Gates, shutters and walls have been painted to improve the aesthetic, and 62 windows have been replaced on the Holmesdale stand.

The Tap Room

Perhaps most excitingly, there’s a new bar for your pre-match and half time drink by Block B of the Holmesdale Road end. Serving all the usuals, The Tap Room will be open from the Hertha Berlin game onwards and makes a perfect, convenient spot for the Holmesdale faithful to gather outside of game time.
