Crystal Palace Ladies fell to defeat against a visiting Durham Women on Saturday, as the hosts lost 2-0 against the third-placed visitors.
It was goals early in each half which secured the points for the Wildcats and, though Palace battled, an otherwise uneventful game meant they were cancelled out by a well-organised opponent.
Durham began the game immediately in the ascendancy, as they netted in the fourth minute thanks to Emily Roberts, who latched on to a cross mis-controlled by Lucy Gillett to bury the ball in the Eagles' net.
Gillett atoned for her earlier misfortune less than ten minutes later as Roberts broke through on goal before the Palace shot-stopper stood firmly and bravely to maintain the deadlocked scoreline.
Durham then saw the ball hit Palace's inside netting for the second time that day, only for Nicki Gears' effort to be ruled out for offside. Moments later, Robertson then came close to doubling her tally, but flashed a shot across the face of the home side's goal before later teeing up Gears in the box after a smart run only to see the feet of Gillett deny the Wildcat forward.
Little else happened during the remainder of the game's first half, other than visiting shot-stopper Hannah Reid being forced into action for the first time of note as she put her gloves behind Kallie Balfour's effort before Ashlee Hincks' racing efforts to bury the rebound ended up in vain.
Following the break, Durham doubled their lead almost immediately when Gears latched on to a lofted ball to loop her own effort past Gillett and into the Palace net.
With the lead firmly intact, Durham were happy to hold possession and see the game out, preventing either side from creating many chances for the remainder of the game.
To finish, the Wildcats caused the home side one last scare when Abby Holmes worked her way masterfully into the box before cracking the ball into the Eagles' side netting with only Gillett to beat.
Palace were unable to find a foothold as Saturday's clash wound to a close and finished the day losing to a two-goal deficit.
