Having helped his side to earn a point from a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City today, Oliver O'Dwyer will be pleased with his performance for the Crystal Palace Under-23s.
Having been heavily involved both defensively and going forward, O'Dwyer was at the heart of the action today and reflected on the match speaking after full-time.
He said, "It was a hard game obviously, it wasn’t a pretty game. [In the] first half, we gave them a bit too much respect and we gave them time to play in the second half and they scored the first goal. From the start, we need to be more at it and stop showing teams as much respect."
Having spent a lot of time sidelined due to various injuries, O'Dwyer has now been able to enjoy a sustained run in the team and, assessing his own strength, said, "I feel alright, just been trying to get as many games as possible and stay fit. The mask is gone now so it’s alright, I can actually see; I’m not Batman anymore! So it should all be alright."
Finishing up, O'Dwyer considered how his side can do this season and suggested that, in spite of the relative inexperience among the squad, they can go far.
"We’ve got a lot of young bunch of lads," he said, "and it’s not about winning the league but you’ve got to have that competitive streak and there’s a good enough bunch of lads in there that can win the league, If we keep sticking together, training well and playing well, there’s no reason we can’t win the league."
