Collecting the award last night in Battersea, Townsend said: "It's a huge honour for me. It was a special occasion for myself, for Crystal Palace. To get a win at the Etihad is no mean feat. It's a goal and a win I'll never forget for the rest of my career."
Townsend's screamer was selected by a panel of 22 experts including former professional footballers such as Tony Cottee, Bob Wilson and Bobby Zamora in an evening which awarded the best in London football.
