There was also encouragement in the return of captain George King and Joél Drakes-Thomas, with both players making their first appearances since the opening-day draw at Arsenal after spells on the sidelines through injury.
Powell welcomed having the pair back involved, while also acknowledging the physical demands of a busy schedule.
“It’s positive, getting bodies back,” he said. “Hopefully, we might get one more back come Tuesday.
“At this moment in time, we’re having to use players that played away at Swindon to go again today and then have to go again come Tuesday.
“But this is it. This is the programme. If the boys want to have a career, this is what it looks like.
“You play, recover and then go again physically and psychologically. It’s tough, but that’s the game.”
Attention now turns to Tuesday evening, when Palace travel to Plymouth Argyle in their second EFL Trophy group fixture.
Having opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory at Swindon Town, Powell is already focused on another opportunity for his side to respond.
“We’ll go there with the mindset to try and win the game,” he added.
“Recover, see the walking wounded, see who’s available and we’ll go again and try and win the game up at Plymouth.”
