The 20-year-old joined Palace at Under-16 level in 2022 and went on to sign his first professional contract with the club in July 2024.
He enjoyed his first-team breakthrough in 2025/26, debuting in Palace’s UEFA Conference League victory over Dynamo Kyiv, before featuring in the EFL Trophy win against Liverpool at Anfield.
After signing a new deal until 2028, the full-back made his first senior start and Premier League debut against Arsenal on the final day of the campaign, before being part of the squad which lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy a few days later.
Cardines’ performances have also earned him 11 senior caps for Trinidad and Tobago.
He is now set to continue his development in the Championship with Michael Skubala’s Bristol City side.
Everyone at Crystal Palace wishes Rio the very best during his loan spell with the Robins.
