One Year On: Eagles lift the Community Shield

Can you believe that it's a year to the day (10th August) since Crystal Palace sealed a second trophy at a sun-soaked Wembley Stadium?

It was, of course, to prove the second of three in just over 12 months – and another occasion to remember from the Eagles' golden era.

Not long after our FA Cup semi-final and Final victories in April and May 2025 respectively, Palace made it three victories in a calendar year beneath the famous arch with a penalty shoot-out win over Premier League winners Liverpool.

Backed once again by a spectacular atmosphere, Palace were looking to inflict another memorable defeat on one of the league's famous heavyweights.

And whilst Liverpool twice look the lead in the first-half through debutants Hugo Ekitiké and Jeremie Frimpong, Palace roared back on both occasions, with goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta (a penalty) and Ismaïla Sarr – the first of a record-breaking individual campaign – taking the game to penalties.

Mohamed Salah missed his kick and Dean Henderson saved from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, whilst Mateta, Sarr and Justin Devenny all scored from the spot, to secure Palace another trophy for the cabinet.

The result saw us lift the FA Community Shield trophy for the very first time, and in our first-ever involvement in the fixture too.
