Football runs in the family
Gozo’s father Alban Gozo, originally from the Ivory Coast, was also a footballer. He suffered an injury playing in France which ended his playing days prematurely.
But despite this, Alban was still a big influence on Zavier’s career, as was his brother.
As Gozo told Real Salt Lake in 2023: “When my dad first moved here from the Ivory Coast, he met my mom through mutual friends at a Utah Jazz [basketball] game. I went to a lot of Jazz games growing up, and I also played for the Junior Jazz when I was younger.
“But despite that, it was always soccer only for me. My brother is older than me and when I’d watch him play, I knew that’s all I wanted to do.
“My dad was also a huge influence on me as well, he didn’t want to force me to play but always encouraged it.”
