The 22-year-old once again provided plenty of cut and thrust for Palace down the right-hand side, proving an attacking threat throughout the game – and almost teeing up Tyrick Mitchell for the winner, but for a VAR ruling for offside.
And at the other end of the pitch, Khalaili was ubiquitous, making three clearances, two tackles and an interception as Pierre Sage’s side recorded a first Premier League clean sheet of the season.
On a ground where Newcastle United had conceded four less than a week prior, and against an intense opponent who had three days’ additional preparation time, it was certainly a creditable result for Palace.
Khalaili recognised this on Palace TV, saying: “It was a tough game first of all, and we can be proud of ourselves because we gave our best and did the most important thing: we didn’t concede.
“We can take a lot of positive things. We created a lot of opportunities, and it was okay.
“I believe in that [Palace are making progress], I believe in my teammates, and we will do great things.”
