West Ham prevailed in a game of few clear cut chances, as the Irons managed to contain a Palace attack that had scored seven in the last three games in all competitions.
Reflecting on her feelings at full-time, Potter said: "I'm really disappointed. I think it's hard when you don't feel like you've done enough to win the game. I don't think that they have either. We've given them a goal.
"We've got to take those mistakes out. We've spoken to the players about the decision-making elements in those moments and what it looks like in certain parts of the game.
"We've taken a bit of ownership, but our quality was off today. I thought we controlled the game for large parts, some elements have improved, which we'd asked them to improve on, but other elements have got worse.
"It's a tough one to take. I'm bitterly disappointed with that result and the mannerisms of how we've lost that game."

Her team now have Southampton away in the Players Cup on Wednesday before hosting Chelsea in the WSL on Sunday.
Looking ahead to another busy week, Potter said: "There's no time to dwell. We've had a good run so far in the Players Cup, so we've got to remember that.
"We've got to take that form into that game as well, but we've got to make sure that we're doing better on moments like these because I feel like it was a real opportunity today.
"Obviously, next Sunday as well, we're back here. We're facing an undefeated Chelsea. Huge game. We've got to be better. They're coming in in fine form.
"They've had another brilliant result today. They've scored plenty of goals, so we've got to make sure that we're right.
"The girls will turn up, no doubt about that."
