Palace return to league action at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after responding positively to last weekend's defeat by Tottenham Hotspur, beating Watford 1-0 in the Subway Players Cup league phase on Wednesday evening.
Potter: We have to keep producing our levels
Crystal Palace Women's Manager Jo Potter has spoken to the media ahead of Sunday's Barclays Women's Super League trip to Birmingham City.
I can never question the group's mentality
—Jo Potter
Potter highlighted the mentality of her squad, with the Eagles quickly putting the disappointment of the Spurs result behind them to produce a dominant performance against the Championship side.
"I think one of the biggest things that I can never question around my group and the players that we've got is their mentality," she said.
"You can see from how we performed on Wednesday. We performed really, really well. You could see that we looked comfortable.
"We can't let 45 minutes of football in the second half against Spurs determine what our season looks like and what we've built up until now because we've been excellent.
"You do have an off 45 minutes. You don't expect those results, but we can't let that determine what we look like now going forward."
We've got to build on Watford
—Jo Potter
The result against Watford was ultimately decided by Shannon O'Brien's first goal for the club, but Palace had created a number of opportunities and twice struck the woodwork before finding the breakthrough.
Potter was pleased with the way her side stuck to their plan and continued to create chances.
"We kept going, we kept producing, we kept creating those moments. We stuck to our plan and it came through in the end," she said.
"It was big for us to find a way to win against a really structured Watford team.
"It's stuff that we've got to build on. We worked on a few things that we can take into the weekend as well, so I think it's important that players got to experience that."
It's always going to be a difficult game against Birmingham
—Jo Potter
Attention now turns back to the WSL, with Birmingham next up and the Eagles looking to carry those levels into Sunday's contest.
Potter knows the Blues well from last season's Championship campaign, but expects a different challenge this time around, with both clubs having added new faces to their squads.
"I think it's difficult because we do know them really well. Both teams look quite different now in a different league and with different squads, a little bit of a different way of playing, new faces, some old faces," she explained.
"We know it's always going to be a difficult game and we know that everyone's probably going to be looking at these games thinking these are the ones that you need to be looking to pick up points in.
"They're a good outfit. They're a really well-managed team, so each game is tough and you can see the improvements that they've made as well."
Consistency is going to be key
—Jo Potter
While pleased with the Eagles' opening three league matches in the WSL, Potter stressed the importance of maintaining their standards as the season develops.
"You can see that if you don't go and push and you don't go and try and stay with the teams that are pushing, they're doing it year on year," she said.
"You've got to try and stay with it. You've got to try and stay within touching distance and it's difficult.
"It's been good for us to have the start that we've had, but we've got to keep doing it and we've got to keep producing it to maintain our levels in this league."
That consistency will be crucial as Palace look to build momentum, with Potter drawing on the lessons learned from last season's impressive run-in.
"We need to take those consistency levels and keep trying week on week. The consistency is going to be key," she said.
"You can't get carried away. You can't look too far ahead and start looking at three or four games down the line.
"We've fully got to concentrate and give all our respect to Birmingham on the weekend, and that's what we've got to do week on week."
