Potter: We have to start stronger

Crystal Palace Women's Manager Jo Potter had mixed emotions at full-time, as she watched her side draw 1-1 away at Aston Villa.

Potter was quick to point out the similarities with last week's draw against Birmingham City.
She said: "It's a similar theme at the moment. We're not starting games well enough. The first-half was well below our expectations and our standards, it was the same as the Birmingham game.
"I thought we started the second-half better, but it took for us to concede a goal to actually start implementing our game plan and just relax, which we needed to do a little bit earlier.
"We've got to create our own confidence, luck, and momentum in that way, we can't wait for an opponent to do it.
"I was disappointed for large parts of the game, but towards the end, I think you could see that we were really pushing and trying to go and get three points.
"We could've nicked it at the end there, which is unfortunate. Hopefully the luck starts going with us soon and those start dropping in, and they turn into three points.
"We've gotta start stronger in games. We can't keep giving opponents large parts of the game to grow into it and have large parts of possession without laying a glove, really."

Abbie Larkin proved to be the star of the show at Villa Park, bagging an exceptional equaliser on 74 minutes to draw Palace level.
Potter reflected on her No.19's performance and how she can help the team moving forwards.
"She was brilliant. You can see the threat that she's got. I think our challenge as a team is to use her a little bit more in these moments, and her challenge is to be more effective in moments when we're not using her as much, and to do it more consistently.
"A lot of forward players are confidence players, and they need the ball to keep providing, build that confidence, and build their momentum.
"But she's only young, she's growing, and she's gonna be some player - I said it last year. She's done tremendously well today and managed to score a great goal for us," she said.

Palace now have a short international break before returning on Sunday, 18th October against West Ham at home.
She spoke about the importance for the team to rest and reset ahead of a busy October and November.
Potter said: "Yeah, I think it's a good moment for us to reset and recharge. We lose a lot to international duty, but it's a good time for us to find out some details that we're going to work on.
"It's a perfect opportunity for us to get some individual detail into the players and spend some real quality time with them on certain elements that they need.
"No pressure on training sessions, a little bit more lighthearted while working hard, and getting some well-earned rest. It's a brutal fixture list when we get back in again, so we need to be ready to go."
