In a month in which the Palace Academy graduate racked up his milestone 250th appearance for the club – celebrating the landmark with a clean sheet against Leeds United at Elland Road, in a game he also had a goal disallowed by VAR – Mitchell has begun the campaign in fine fettle at both ends of the pitch.
The No. 3 started September in memorable fashion with a first-ever career brace, notching twice in a 3-2 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage – the first an outstanding near-post finish.
Mitchell went on to help Palace earn further points at Leeds and – in the UEFA Europa League – against Lech Poznań, ending the Polish champions’ 15-game run of scoring in away European matches as the Eagles ran out 4-0 winners.
