The result guarantees the Young Eagles a top-two finish in Southern Group E, marking a new milestone for Darren Powell’s side after entering the competition for the first time in 2021/22.
However, their final position will not be confirmed until next Tuesday (10th November), when Plymouth Argyle host Swindon Town at Home Park. The Pilgrims can still overtake Palace by avoiding defeat.
Now known as the Jersey Mike’s Trophy, the competition brings together League One and League Two clubs with 16 Category One academies, including Palace’s U21s.
The 64 teams were split into 16 regional groups of four, with the top two in each group advancing to the knockout stages. Wins earned three points, while drawn matches were followed by penalty shootouts, with the winners claiming an additional point.
From the knockout stages onwards, ties level after 90 minutes are also decided by penalties, with extra time reserved for the Wembley Final if required.
Palace opened their Group E campaign with a statement 2-1 victory over League One side Swindon Town, with Caleb Kporha and Seb Williams on target. However, a 5-1 defeat away to Plymouth Argyle left Powell’s side needing a result in south Wales to keep their hopes alive – and they duly delivered.
The round of 32 fixtures are scheduled for the week commencing Monday, 7th December, with further details of Palace’s tie to follow.
