A stadium with a view
Few football stadiums can boast the backdrop enjoyed by Beşiktaş Park.
Situated on the northern shore of the Bosphorus, the stadium sits directly opposite the historic Dolmabahçe Palace, with the Dolmabahçe Clock Tower and Mosque also nearby.
That location presented some unique challenges during construction.
The stadium's height had to be carefully controlled so as not to disrupt the surrounding skyline, while its proximity to the Bosphorus placed limits on how far construction could go below ground.
The result is a distinctive structure standing 41.5 metres tall, with an exterior inspired by a classical amphitheatre.
Tall vertical concrete pillars run around the outside of the stadium, helping the modern venue blend with the historic architecture that surrounds it.
Inside, the two tiers of stands curve around the pitch, with supporters positioned close to the action to help create one of the most atmospheric grounds in Turkish football.
The stadium's roof also helps amplify the noise, making for an imposing environment when the Beşiktaş faithful are in full voice!
