Roberto De Zerbi has battled Pierre Sage's teams when the two were both managing in France, and the Spurs boss showed respect for his opposite number during Friday's pre-match press conference.
"I know very well Pierre Sage," he told the media. He is a very good coach.
"I have known him for a long time, from when he worked at Lyon, and last season at Lens. He's a very good coach.
"It's not easy playing three competitions as they are at the moment.
"I watched their games against Fulham, against Besiktas and Newcastle. They lost at Newcastle, but they are alive.
"Tomorrow will be a tough game for us."
