If there's one place a Palace supporter would choose to bounce back from a tough run – other than Selhurst Park – it would probably be the home of our greatest rivals. And that only served to make Sunday's 1-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium taste all the sweeter.

Time and time again, this group have shown that – when challenging moments arise, as they invariably do in football – this Crystal Palace team can summon up the perfect riposte. And what better way to respond to back-to-back losses than with two mightily impressive Premier League away wins in the space of five days?

The Numbers: The best stats from Palace's back-to-back away wins

The Eagles controlled the majority of the first-half, but a breakthrough appeared to have eluded them. 

That was until the 44th minute when Guéhi picked out wing-back Daniel Muñoz at the back post, who opened the scoring via a smart finish with his head.

Ultimately it proved the difference between the sides. Reflecting on the performance with Palace TV, the captain said: "This is not an easy place to come to. 

"I'm glad we all fought together, stuck together and got the three points. Luckily we had that character today, which is always good. It's something to definitely build on for the future. So I'm proud of everyone.

"It was one moment of quality from Dani \[that decided the game\] Especially with the pressure coming from behind him. It was a fantastic goal."

The skipper's excellent cross unlocked the Clarets defence, with Burnley having looked fairly resilient up until that point. But Guéhi was typically modest with his assessment of the assist.

"I just put it into an area. I don't think I can take any credit for that," he added.

"Honestly, more credit to Dani because he's always on the edge of those crosses and constantly making runs in behind.

"You know, credit to him for always being there. Like I said, it was a difficult chance. It's not easy to score that."

Guéhi praises team spirit

Burnley threw everything at the Eagles in an effort to claim a point after the break, with Dean Henderson required to make a world-class fingertip save to deny Jacob Bruun Larsen, to preserve the clean sheet. But Guéhi and his colleagues at the back held firm.

"We kind of knew they were going to come out flying," he added. "And going to give the best that they could.

"I think there were some fantastic blocks in there, Chris off the line, Dean's save and Maxence... just every single person putting their body on the line just to get the three points."

Guéhi also paid tribute to Palace's magnificent travelling support, who more than made themselves heard on a cold winter's night at Turf Moor.

"It's not easy \[to get up to Burnley for a midweek fixture\]," Guéhi added. "They pay their well earned money to come and support us wherever we go.

"They've been at Strasbourg, then at the home game last time, then coming away to Burnley. It's not easy, constantly supporting the team.

"You could only hear them tonight, which is always nice. So thank you to them for their support."

Captain Marc Guéhi was full of pride after his Palace teammates dug out a well-earned three points on the road at Burnley.

With a tense game approaching half-time, the Colombian full-back made a typically energetic run to the far post and adjusted his body shape well to head Marc Guéhi's delivery back across goal and into the far corner – and that ended up being the decisive contribution on the night.

Muñoz was also influential in much of Palace's attacking play, another bursting run teeing up Jean-Philippe Mateta early in the second-half, and solid at the back, making six clearances.

Those efforts were enough to see Muñoz secure **43.3%** of your Player of the Match votes, with **Dean Henderson** (15.7%), **Guéhi** (15.3%) and **Chris Richards** (13.4%) also all scoring highly on a night where defences were largely on top.

Glasner on hard-fought victory

The Eagles' victory in Lancashire, courtesy of Daniel Muñoz's well-taken header on the stroke of half-time, saw Palace move up to fifth in the Premier League table on the occasion of our 630th match in the competition.

That tally, added to our 370 previous matches in the old Division One, means we have now played **1,000** times in the top-flight, winning on **288** occasions (to go with **277** draws and **435** defeats).

Across nine seasons in the old Division One, and 16-and-a-half in the Premier League, Palace have collected some **1,088 points** – albeit with our first six seasons being two-points-per win.

When all seasons are scaled up to three-points-per win, our total top-flight points would be **1,131**.

Those results have encompassed some **1,099** top-flight goals for the Eagles – Muñoz's latest coming two seasons after compatriot Jefferson Lerma struck our 1,000th with a spectacular effort against Chelsea.

Henderson on resilient win

The Eagles were the better team for the opening hour at Turf Moor and deservedly led through Daniel Muñoz’s first-half header, but needed a series of impressive stops from Henderson – including a world-class fingertip save to deny Jacob Bruun Larsen midway through the second-half – to secure a clean sheet and, with it, three points.

Reflecting on the moment with Sky Sports, Henderson said: “Yeah, obviously that's my job.

“I was actually disappointed in the last game to get beaten from that sort of angle, so it's nice to make the save tonight.

“My hand was killing after it! I knew I got the touch – \[I looked at the screen as\] I just wanted to see what it looked like!”

On the game itself, Henderson surmised: “I thought it was interesting. Obviously the last couple of games have been difficult. We've took the lead going into half-time in both the previous two games, and obviously you get one ahead there.

“We probably didn't play our best tonight, that's for sure, but it shows the lads were in the trenches at the end, and we came away with a big clean sheet.

“They threw everything at us, to be fair. I thought they had the last 15-20 minutes there. The lads were working so hard, people playing out of position and stuff like that, but everyone to a man defended the box fantastically today, and I'm really proud of them all.”

We've got to live and die by that defensive record

There was one late goal-line clearance from Chris Richards after Armando Broja beat Henderson to a hanging cross, and the goalkeeper noted: “That's everyone digging in for each other and making up for each other. 

“We've got that unity in the group and they help me out as much as I try and help them out. There's a great unit at the back, and that's why we've got a great defensive record at the minute and everyone's working so hard.

“It's 11 men on the pitch which obviously does that. It’s a group effort. 

“I think we've got to live and die by that defensive record. Obviously, with the games coming thick and fast, we've just got to keep recovering well, and keep going and keep putting one foot in front of another.”

For the third game in a row, Palace were good value for a 1-0 lead at half-time, but unlike previously, were able to see the result through to three important points, thanks to some fine collective defending, a world-class save from Dean Henderson and a late goal-line clearance from Chris Richards.

“A very important win, a huge win, to be honest,” was Glasner’s summary, speaking to Palace TV.

“For me there were more or less two parts of the game: the first 60 minutes we did well, controlled the game, scoring a nice goal, having the big opportunity straight after half-time, and the last 30 minutes it was then to survive and get the win over the goal line, and we did it. 

“The players showed great resilience, we had fantastic support from our fans, and then together we could get this win, a very important win here at Burnley.

“I trust this group of players 100 percent, that they are leaving their heart on the pitch and giving everything they have. Even today, they wanted to play better in the last 30 minutes, but it just didn't work, and then we have to accept it and we have to support it.

“I think, right at the moment we can't expect that we're always playing brilliantly in everything, one-touch football, and it's easy. Then, you have some games on Wednesday evening, an away game, third game in five days, third time we're leading 1-0 at half-time – the last two we lost with set-play goals, it's somewhere in the back of your mind – and then being that resilient really makes you proud and just shows how great this group is.”


Glasner noted that Muñoz’s goal – his second in successive Premier League away games for Palace, and his fourth of the season overall – stemmed from a rehearsed pattern of play.

“It was almost the same goal against Newcastle last season \[Guéhi assisting Muñoz\],” the Manager observed. “We scored a similar goal against \[Dynamo\] Kyiv in the Conference League – it's one of our attacking patterns. Last time we trained it, it was in pre-season, but still the players can deliver, and it helped us.

“I also think it was a great chance, how we prepared the second chance of JP \[Mateta\], in the second-half. It was a great ball. This was one touch, forward, back, forward, Dani taking a great position, good runs in the box, and just missing this chance.

“Of course we would like to see this five, six, seven times again, but today we showed it two or three times, and that was enough because we defended really well. In one important situation, we had Dean Henderson's fingers and the crossbar \[to thank\], and in one situation we Chris Richards with a goal-line clearance, and that's why we could get the win.

“An important win, and 23 points after 14 rounds. I’m really proud of the team.”

Glasner also sent a message thanking the loud away section on a Wednesday night in Lancashire: “Thank you for the support again. 

"We know we can always rely on them, we can always count on them, and it helps.

“This togetherness, we're talking quite often about it in the team, in our group, and of course when we are in the stadium, in the games, we have our fans, we are one big group, one big Crystal Palace – and that's why we could win today.”

Oliver Glasner hailed Crystal Palace’s ‘huge’ 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday evening, as the Eagles returned to winning ways thanks to Daniel Muñoz’s header late in the first-half – and a resilient, defensively strong display throughout the rest of the contest.

Palace were looking to bounce back from the disappointment of twice taking the lead, but twice being defeated, in last week’s pair of fixtures – but they were in turn coming up against a Burnley side on a run of four straight defeats in the Premier League.

The only change to Palace’s side from Sunday’s home loss saw the injured Ismaïla Sarr drop out of the squad, with Jefferson Lerma coming into the starting XI and Daichi Kamada pushed forward to support the attack.

With both sides having a reputation for their defensive organisation, the opening quarter-of-an-hour was a battle of who could win the second ball in plenty of instances – although it was not without its chances.

Maxime Estève, the Burnley centre-back, was first to find space in an opponent’s box on seven minutes, although his floating header was well off target after the defender had joined an attack and ran to meet a high ball in.

Seven minutes later, Palace responded in kind, some brilliant combination play in midfield seeing Lerma and Kamada combine to set Jean-Philippe Mateta racing towards goal through the middle, albeit his run taking him away from goal.

Having bullied his centre-back off the pass, however, Mateta unleashed a low drive towards Burnley ‘keeper Martin Dúbravka’s near post – the goalkeeper got down low to block the strike behind.

The two teams were going blow-for-blow, and a minute later, it took a fine one-handed save, high to Dean Henderson’s left, to prevent Jaidon Anthony from placing Burnley in front after 15 minutes.

It was as open as the first-half would get, however, as the remainder of the opening period ebbed and flowed – neither team able to carve out any real chances of note.

Yéremy Pino was involved a couple of promising moves, at one stage opting to pass rather than shoot from just inside the box, whilst Lerma’s and Chris Richards’ long throws were a consistent source of danger for Palace, with one almost dropping for Kamada after half-an-hour; and Tyrick Mitchell showed plenty of energy and industry to advance into several decent positions down the left.

But the two defences ultimately remained on top – until the very stroke of half-time, at least.

The breakthrough came from a moment of quality from skipper Marc Guéhi, who picked up the ball and strode into space from a deep position, before pinging a perfect hanging ball towards Muñoz at the back post.

The Colombian, for a second Premier League away game in succession, found the pocket of space in the opposition box and – stooping to meet the ball’s flight – headed back across goal, and into the net, for his fourth goal of the season.

It was a fitting reward for Palace’s perseverance in a tight, competitive first-half – and the second started in similar fashion, light on chances but not so on physical duels in the middle third.

It took until the 56th minute for the first real opportunity to arrive – and it went Palace’s way. The Eagles had already strung together a couple of promising moves from midfield but this latest passage of play was incisive, culminating with Wharton setting Muñoz in behind down the right.

The Colombian carried the ball into the box and pulled it back low and hard towards the penalty spot; Mateta, on the stretch, was just about able to divert goalwards, but with no time to place his finish, it flew too close to Dúbravka to beat the keeper.

Burnley admittedly responded, making several substitutions which had an effect. A ball in from half-time entrant Jacob Bruun Larsen skipped up high for Lyle Foster to half-volley inside the box. Mitchell charged out to make a brave block, and Josh Cullen’s follow-up volley hit Foster before sailing behind.

Moments later, Palace were indebted to what will surely go down as one of the saves of the season. 

A flat cross from Hannibal Mejbri picked out Bruun Larsen in space at the far post, and he touched the ball down before smashing the ball goalwards.

At first, it appeared the ball struck the crossbar of its own accord – but watching back the replay, the finest of touches from Henderson’s fingertips was crucial to diverting it onto the woodwork and, thankfully, away.

Burnley continued to press but Palace held firm, Henderson particularly impressive in making a brave low dive to turn away Marcus Edwards’ fizzed cross.

The hosts threw on additional attackers in the game’s closing stages – and did have one late close-range free-kick from Edwards, which thankfully hit the wall, as well as a looping header from Armando Broja which needed clearing off the line by Chris Richards.

But Palace hung on for a hard-fought, but important, away win, one which lifted them us up to fifth in the Premier League table.

**Jefferson Lerma** comes into the side to replace the injured Ismaïla Sarr, in a change which is likely to see Daichi Kamada move further forward to support the attack.

Otherwise, the Eagles’ initial XI is unchanged from the side which fell to a narrow defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.

Scott Parker switches round his Burnley lineup with two changes from the side which fell 3-1 to Brentford last weekend.

Hjalmar Ekdal comes in for the injured Axel Tuanzebe at the back, while Jaidon Anthony returns to the starting XI after featuring as a substitute at the Gtech Community Stadium. Hannibal Mejbri moves to the bench.

Palace have lost just one of their last nine evening (19:00 GMT or later) kick-offs in the Premier League, winning five of them of them and drawing three.

Crystal Palace have made one change to their starting XI to face Burnley at Turf Moor tonight.

Team News: One change for Palace at Burnley

The Eagles have suffered back-to-back come-from-behind defeats against RC Strasbourg and Manchester United in their last two outings but – with a busy fixture schedule ahead of them – have the opportunity to move forward quickly when they visit Turf Moor tonight, taking on a Burnley team who themselves have suffered four defeats in-a-row.

And 19-year-old Canvot, who is now entering his fourth month as a Palace player following his summer switch from Toulouse, says that the mental fortitude of the group has made an immediate impression on him.

“We are competitors, so we want to win everything,” Canvot told Premier league Productions. “We play to win every game.

“The last game against Man United, we wanted to win, but we lost. That's football – but we just want to win everything and be competitors.

“We know Burnley, and we know that it’s been hard for them recently, with four losses in a row. But we won’t think about that – we just want to go there and win.”

On settling in South London, Canvot added: “I love the place, I love where I live, and I love the club too. I love the staff, I love the players… all’s good.

“It’s like a family here. Every player helps me. We push each other, and the coach [Oliver Glasner] is like this, everybody is like this, all the people who work for this club… it's unbelievable.

“The crowd is crazy! When you come in and you see the Palace fans, you just want to play and give 100 percent.”

Canvot enjoyed his first Premier League start at the beginning of November, impressing with a clean sheet in Palace’s 0-0 draw against rivals Brighton & Hove Albion at Selhurst Park.

The teenager has been challenging for a place in one of the competition’s most in-form defences, and says he is enjoying learning from the likes of captain Marc Guéhi, Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards.

“I learn from him, because he's one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League,” Canvot said of Guéhi. “I just want to learn what he does.

“He’s a good person, he helps me a lot. He helps all the players because he's our captain. He helps me because he came to this club early on – I’m 19 and he came here at 21 – and he just talks to me, and tells me to play like I play.

“We have a good group here. I'm the youngest, I know that, but that’s alright! I can speak with everybody. I can speak with the old guys, young guys.

“I speak with the Manager every day. I feel good here, and he helps me a lot. I learn every day with him, with the staff. That’s good for me.

“I know I'm a young player, but I just want to play and to be better and better and better. I’ve started to play a lot, so I want to help the team. I just want to progress, develop myself every day and be the best player I can.”

**In his pre-match press conference Burnley boss Scott Parker** called for a big atmosphere for the visit of Palace, admitting that facing Oliver Glasner's side will be a difficult task.

“There’s a busy period coming up - it's a brilliant period for us," said Parker. "Four home games at our stadium before the start of the new year.

"We need to see a reaction, put our best foot forward and get some more points on the board.

"Palace are a tough opponent, for sure. They're a team that has been together a long time - they're well coached with a really strong structure.

"We're up against a really well-drilled opponent, but as always, we're at home, and I want to see a reaction from the players.

"We need Turf Moor bouncing. We need the fans to bring the full support they always give us.

"It can't be underestimated how big a role the supporters can play - we need a siege mentality, on and off the pitch.

"There's going to be a real endeavour from us to bring that energy to the stadium, and we want the fans to be part of it too."

Burnley defenders Jordan Beyer (thigh) and Connor Roberts (Achilles) still out of action due to long-term injuries.

However, there is a potential boost for Parker's options in attack, with summer signing Armando Broja facing a late fitness test ahead of the game. Should he comes through unscathed, the striker is likely to be on the bench for the hosts.

### **Their Season So Far...**

Burnley already look a far tougher nut to crack than they were on their last visit to the Premier League in 2023/24. Last season's Championship-title winners have built on the solid foundation of a steely defence.

Although they are still adjusting to the Premier League and currently lie in 19th, a win could take them out of the drop zone. They would be sat with a better points total, were it not for late defeats in subsequent match rounds against Manchester United and Liverpool earlier on in the campaign.

Back-to-back wins over Leeds and Wolves, showed Parker's team have enough ability to maintain their top-flight status. They just need to find consistency over the vital Christmas and New Year period.

### **The Boss: Scott Parker**

Former Charlton, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham midfielder Parker led Burnley back to promotion at the very first attempt last season.

The England international was initially coaching at Tottenham and Fulham following his retirement, before he was installed as a caretaker boss at Craven Cottage when Claudio Ranieri was dismissed in the February of 2019. 

Parker was made permanent boss in the summer. In the six years since, he has won three promotions from the Championship to the Premier League, also taking Bournemouth up in 2021/22 as well as Burnley last season.

In 2022/23, although Bournemouth got off to a winning start on the opening day with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, the Cherries went on to lose the next three games to Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal before Parker parted ways with the club.

He will be looking for a fairer crack at the Premier League this time around, having steered the Clarets to the title last term.
